Eat. sleep. binge. repeat.
The fitness industry has a deep, dark, dirty little secret.
One that affects the vast majority of fitness competitors and enthusiasts that I know.
And no, it's not steroids - that's not really a secret. More of a guilt by omission rather than a lie. (though there are plenty that want to convince you they're natural, when they are FAR from it... a story for another day maybe)
The dirty little secret? Eating disorders.
And it doesn't seem like they would be the type because they're so focused on their nutrition, hitting their macros, and eating healthy.
But that's where it comes from - it's their obsession with the way that they look that drives them to the eating disorders. Even if those eating disorders are considered healthy.
Before I go further - you gotta understand - I'm not shitting on these people.
I WAS one of these people.
I was obsessed with what I was eating, my macros, how healthy the food is, and 'getting back on my diet' constantly.
When I cheated - I binged - a classic eating disorder.
And boy did I binge hard. Then I felt so guilty for binging that I would try and make up for it the next day.
Extra cardio? Cleaner eating than normal? Maybe a little mental punishment.
All of which are not helpful in any way.
But it doesn't have to be that way. Eating healthy and following a diet are not inherently going to lead to an eating disorder.
It's only when you let that obsession control everything you do.
In the latest Episode - #17 - The Nut Club sat down with Hadlea Shaw and talked about it all.
The eating disorders, what to expect as a first-time competitor, what working with a coach is like, her favorite (and not so favorite) fast food chains, and most importantly - the mental toughness required.
