About 10 years ago I stopped eating protein for 30 days.
Instead, I swapped all of my protein sources for EAA's (other than one meal at night with my family).
Rather than eating 50-60g of protein per meal, I had 10g of EAAs. My hypothesis was that it wasn't the amount of protein that was important, but that muscle protein synthesis (MPS) was stimulated.
Because when MPS is maximally stimulated, your body will use amino acids more effectively towards muscle building and repair.
That's the whole reason bodybuilders and athletes eat so much protein everyday - to force their bodies into an anabolic state where muscle building and repair are more likely to happen.
Coming from a place of eating 300g of protein daily, this was quite the change for me.
First, I've never craved meat more than I did in that 30 days...
Second, I GAINED muscle in that time period. My strength increased and I felt great.
That's because EAA's (along with the BCAA's that are included) are the primary drivers for triggering MPS. BCAA's, especially leucine, play a critical role in initiating the process of protein synthesis (muscle building and repair).
Now, I'm not saying you should ditch your regular protein sources. Whole foods offer a whole host of essential nutrients, and there's magic in the way nature packages these nutrients together.
Plus, meat is just way more satisfying than drinking EAA's - and I wouldn't want to give up that pleasure.
I'm just showing you what's possible when you understand the mechanisms underlying muscle growth and repair. When you understand what it takes to build muscle, you can manipulate your body and diet in ways that you weren't familiar with.
And in times where you're trying to reduce calories but still protect muscle? EAA's are a game changer. They can allow you to reduce your total overall caloric intake, without the risk of losing muscle from not eating enough protein.
Or if you just struggle to meet your daily protein requirements, an EAA can help you use the protein you're taking in much more effectively - especially if you are using EAAs around your workout.
EAA Factor contains the exact ratio of essential amino acids (EAAs), branched chain amino acids (BCAAs), and leucine to maximize muscle growth. One serving is all it takes to trigger muscle building and repair.
